Another Mason Disappointment
What happened to great novels like "My Lady Vixen" and "Tender Fury"?

good, but not her best.
i have read so many of connie's books, this one would have been as good as her others, but it dragged on forever. there were too many misunderstandings, it was like an episode of three's company. it was very predictable. I was pleased to see a book about a latin man finally- but her cover did him no justice.

Not her best
I love Connie Masons books and have read most of them. This is definitely NOT one of her best. There were entirely to many contrived obstacles in this story. Many if the situations would have made good stories themselves if they had been developed. But instead we just kept jumping from one disaster or misunderstanding to another. Pick another Mason book and you will be more satisfied.

Iridology for Everyone: A Beginner's Handbook
Published in Plastic Comb by AIM Wholesale & Iridology (08 August, 2002)
Author: Donna Mason
Average review score:

There is nothing in it!
Having eagerly awaited my book on iridology by Donna Mason, I found there to be very little content, amature presentation and very limited information. I was staggered by the price of [money amount]for only 34 pages that are written in large type print with big line spacing. On average there are only 160 words on each page.

Informative yet lacking
Although the book contained some good information I was very disappointed by its presentation. First of all it is only 32 pages long and the book looks like a copy of an original. The pictures were very unclear, it looks to be written in 16 point font and most of the pages only have 2 to 3 sentences with a picture. If you combined all the empty space it may condence to about 12 to 14 pages. To be honest it looked like she printed it from her computer at home...and made copies to be sold... I am a beginer and was expecting a lot more from a book claiming to be a handbook for beginers. I found Vision of Heal by Bernard Jenson to be much more helpful to a individual looking to practice this technique to enhace the heath of family and friends.

THE BODY'S EARLY WARNING SYSTEM
I greatly benefited from this book. It offers a fascinating way to determine when preventative health measures may be required. Learning how the eyes provide knowledge of what is happening in the body and how they offer an early warning to restore wellness is invaluable.

Kitchen Table Goldmine: How to Make over $1000 a Week With a Simple, Home-Based Mail Order Business!
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (October, 2000)
Authors: Roger Mason and Lance A. Murkin
Average review score:

Making Money by Placing Scam Ads
Have you ever seen those ads in home-business magazines that promise you the secret of making millions in exchange for [your money]? Well, this book explains the "secret" and tells you how to write and place those ads. (In case you're curious, here's the secret, for free: people see your ad promising the secret of getting rich, and send you money, making you rich. The secret of getting rich is placing ads that promise to tell other people about the secret.)

If that's your thing, this is the book for you, as long as you're not too picky about good writing: this book was not published with pride in craftsmanship. It's packed with errors in grammar, punctuation and typesetting. But then the goal of the book was to make money for the authors; proofreading was apparently just a waste of time.

I'll sell you the secret! My copy is available under "used books."

For The Serious Entrepreneur, Not The Dreamer
If you're looking for some magic book or mysterious plan that will instantly make you rich without any work, this is not it. In fact, none exists. However, if you're looking for an honest, realistic look at how to make money from home in mail order, with a little work and effort on your part, this book will be a great help. Lance and Roger show you the real "secrets" about how to build your own profitable mail order business. In fact, they reveal many strategies and tactics that most would keep a secret. A refreshing look at the profitable world of mail order.

KITCHEN TABLE GOLDMINE
This book offers a fabulous step-by-step method for making money by mail. Its easy to miss some of the underlieing tones like how the authors explore, in depth, the art of advertising and how it is used to sell products. Anyone who is not that sharp may see only fluff (as another reviewer did).Although this book is written primarily for the ' business opportunity seeker' crowd, its universal methods can be applied to any products sold by mail. As one who makes money in mail order, it is obvious to me that the authors have actually 'been there, done that' as they reveal some long hidden truths about the market. Although the publisher or authors could have done a much better job proofreading, the gramitical errors do not take away from the gems of truth revealed in this book.

Professional XSL
Published in Paperback by Wrox Press Inc (June, 2001)
Authors: Kurt Cagle, Michael Corning, Jason Diamond, Teun Duynstee, Oli Gudmundsson, Jirka Jirat, Mike Mason, Jon Pinnock, Paul Spencer, and Jeff Tang
Average review score:

Not well layed out, poor flow
It seems this book was put together in a hurry. Lots of authors contributing to the portions they may understand or use. They don't mention who wrote what but as the reader moves from chapter to chapter, the language and writing style changes dramatically.

I would not recommend this book to others.

Seriously lacking in example explanations
To be fair, this is not an easy subject. However, they give a short chapter on XPath, and then thrust you into XSLT. That would not be bad IF, during their weak XSLT explanations they would also explain the XPath in their examples. Not only are the explanations weak, but the writing style of the authors is not clear and intuitive. Don't get me wrong, they do explain them, but not clearly.

I have been reading Wrox books for several years now, I have always learned a lot from them, but I have to say this is the absolute worst Wrox book I have ever read. I would suggest finding a different book.

Sorry Wrox, I normally very much enjoy your books.

This is book is a god-send!
I'm a developer currently working on a large-scale multi-platform project, which uses XML and XSL extensively.
The book seems to cover all aspects of XSL in great depth, with plenty of code to illustrate how to apply the techniques the authors introduce.
As a programmer used to more traditional procedural languages, I hadn't realised the paradigm shift that working with XSL entails, but this book has kick-started my enthusiasm for XSL, and has shown me what it can really do. The stylesheets I'm writing now are going down very well at work, and one in particular completes its transformation almost 50 times quicker than the code we had previously (no exageration)!

I'd have to disagree with one of the previous reviewers who says it is concerned solely with MSXML!! Although it does cover this technology in one chapter, this isn't a surprise as the book tries cover all aspects of the XSL field. Most of the book is concerned with platform-agnostic tools and techniques, based on the current W3C standards. We use a lot of java in my company, especially as servlets, and this book was pretty indispensible when I was trying to get my stylesheet to work in tandem with servlets and JSP. The one gripe I have is that the book is rather skimpy on Formatting Objects, and if that's your thing you might be disappointed.
Nevertheless, I'd recommend this book to anyone seriously working with XSL, and although it's not a book for novices, it's an excellent reference that you'll keep coming back to.

High-Low-Split Poker, Seven-Card Stud and Omaha Eight-or-better for Advan
Published in Paperback by Two Plus Two Publishing LLC (August, 1994)
Authors: Ray Zee, Mason Malmuth, and Lynne Loomis
Average review score:

High-Low-Split Poker...
My main interest in buying this book was for information on Omaha high-low and overall I found this to be very disappointing. First, since the book is split between stud and omaha, I had little interest in the stud portion. Second, the information on Omaha was of a very general nature and not nearly as in-depth and specific as the Hold Em for Advanced Players by Sklansky. Why Omaha high-low didn't get its own book is beyond me, is it because the author just doesn't have that much strategy to share? That was my feeling and I ended up selling my copy through amazon marketplace. I've found more useful information on Omaha strategy at online websites than in this book.

High-Low-Split Poker For Advanced Players
The Omaha Eight or Better Section of this book is too basic. It lacks specific information on: post and preflop odds, table position, playing connectors, playing turn and river, percent of counterfeit occurances, drawing odds, pot odds and other valuable information that would be of interest to a serious player with a desire to improve their game. Very disappointing.

perfection is most likely not
this title is far out to perfection repair or furthermore ajdusting is likely rewritting is most desirable and extremely of importance but meanwhile david sklansky is a perfect buy book for all players he has over a dozen of titles for all your needs is a must buy david is the way to go

Seduced by a Rogue
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Leisure Books (April, 2003)
Author: Connie Mason
Average review score:

Not worth the paper it was printed on!
The heroine of this book annoyed me. I can't believe Connie Mason could not come up with a better reason for Phoebe leaving Ramsey! The reason she left him was stupid, and the fact that she did leave him over it was even more stupid. If she really loved him like she said why did she not confront him and demand an explaination? She just decides to leave and never look back. And the trust she put in David, it astounds me that anyone could be this stupid! I have not read a book this lousy in a long time, and believe me I have read a few. The Rouge and the Hellion I thought was bad, but this book takes the cake. I am a huge fan of Connie Mason but this book..... The plot was predictabale. I don't see what Ramsey saw in Phoebe at all. She was spineless, selfish, and a coward. I hate when author's write and make the heroine of their books stupid. I will have to agree with reeses_pieces and say this was not one of Connie Mason's best at all. Like I said Connie Mason is one of my favorites authors, but if she writes anymore books like this one she will loose me as a reader.

In Ms. Mason's comfort zone
Connie Mason's second installment to her Rogue series aspires to be no more than an entertaining caper that will gratify her league of fans. A flat-out predictable plot involving Earl of Braxton, Ramsey Dunsmere who is recruited back to the Foreign Offices to seduce his estranged wife, daughter to an Egyptian archaeologist Phoebe Thompson serves as the platform for plenty of hot sizzling interludes. He is to reclaim back an amulet which is crucial to the diplomatic relations between Egypt and England. Ms. Mason's mastery at weaving passion and tension salvages this otherwise prolonged romance and the frustration from their unresolved conflicts on trust and commitments. It is definitely a book in Ms. Mason's comfort zone - safe but none too surprising.

Predictable but...it's still Connie Mason ;-)
Book 2 of The Rogues of London series by Connie Mason introduces us again to Ramsey Dunsmore, Earl of Braxton. The Foreign Office has called upon him for his help in finding a valuable amulet that the Egyptian government wants back. In order to avoid an international political disaster, he is enlisted to seduce Phoebe Thompson in order to find out where the amulet is.
Phoebe Thompson, who has only recently returned to London after 4 years in Egypt, is desperately searching for her Egyptologist father who is missing. Not only that, he is being accused of taking the amulet.

SEDUCED BY A ROGUE does not have a prologue and it is desperately in need of one. There is a lot that has happened that the reader has to catch up on quickly, without the benefit of knowing these characters and why it is likely they might have fallen in love with each other in the first place. Ramsey and Phoebe were married four years ago, but they only shared one night of marital bliss before their entire relationship comes crashing down around them. A close friend convinces Phoebe that Ramsey is a womanizer and she leaves him immediately to go with her father to Egypt, not to return until 4 years later.

The story is very predictable, and the characters very one-dimensional. It's light and fun reading, but there are no surprises here. Without the benefit of a prologue or backing the story up four years, much of the development of this couple is missing.

Valuable Vintage: The Insider's Guide to Identifying and Collecting Important Vintage Fashions
Published in Paperback by Crown Pub (23 April, 2002)
Authors: Elizabeth Mason and Elizabeth M. Mason
Average review score:

Laundry List
This rag trader is merely airing her laundry. Mason has compiled auction results --and they're not all that recent (none from this new century)-- slipped in some high-handed advice from a "seasoned professional" and called it a guide. If you are interested in old price lists, then this is your book. If you want comprehensive advice for caring for, buying and selling vintage clothing, then try another. Particularly unattractive is Mason's tendency to condescend to her reader. Perhaps she is less arrogant when removing stains from other people's clothing. Then again, maybe not. She is tenuous in describing her cleaning techniques; as though she has never tried some of them herself. Save your money. You'll get a better idea of prices by ordering catalogues from current auctions.

I Have Been Waiting For This Book!!!
Wow, I have to say I have been waiting a long time for this book. I have been collecting for many years, but never was able to find a satifactory referrence guide to important designer vintage. This book has it all! I just wish I could afford all the wonderful vintage that is out there in the world. This book sets you straight on the vintage industry as a whole, from the fashion design business to the little girl collector like me! The value listings are very helpful and the hundreds of biographies on the designers simply cut to the chase....where were they and when, as well as the puntuation marks of their careers. I also found the referral to the best vintage businesses worldwide very useful, now if the book only came with a plane ticket to Paris I would be thrilled! In my oppinion a must have for any serious vintage collector.

I Love Your Book
I love your book! (Valuable Vintage) I've been collecting designer vintage for some years now because I love to wear it! After filling all closets in my home I decided to establish my hobby and passion into a profitable business. I recently picked up your book and have happily discovered unfamiliar labels in my collection listed in your book! How fun! It has been a super reference-thanks!

Graciously,
Tina

Microeconomics

Authors: Jeffrey M. Perloff, Charles F. Mason, Robert Whaples, and Jeff Perloff
Average review score:

Worst Intro Micro Text in the market
I was required to buy this book when I took a course taught by the author, Jeff Perloff. This book is the absolute worst micro text I've ever come across. It's confusing and unorganized much like the author himself. If you're looking for a good intro micro text, I suggest you look elsewhere. I highly recommend Nicholson's Microeconomic Theory.

Overpriced
I had to purchase this book for an economics course. It does have some good examples and applications, but other times the book just bogs down and is impossible to read. Lastly, the price tag is ridiculious... Teachers, don't make your students waste their money on this.

An okay book
This book was used for my microeconomics class. It helped me learn the material, but there's still room for improvement.

Having the textbook be so focused on specific examples was not such a good idea, because it made it difficult to understand what do to in a more general problem, or in any problem that deviates from this example. The discussions of concepts, however, were excellent.

I wish the derivations were more integrated into the text instead of in an appendix in the back, and that they were better explained - it's frustrating to spend an hour trying to figure out which steps were left out. The problems in the textbook were challenging but good, however, unless you're at least a econ grad student or some kind of genius, you're probably not going to be able to do many of them just by reading the textbook...which brings me to my last point...if you're taking a class in which this book is mandatory, by all means, get it, it's useful...but if you are trying to learn or brush up on micro without the aid of a class, look for another book

What You Need to Know About... Masons (Conversations With the Cults)

great entertainment if you like fiction
Just another fine example of what people won't do just to sell a couple of books. Why won't some people just get a life....

a good, easy to read summary of dangers in masonry
For those who are curious about the Masons, this is an easy to read, informative book. Most of it is in the form of a novel, based on actual events.

Very good eye-opening book!
I enjoyed this book very much. It is very well written and explained. I sometimes have a hard time reading deep non-fiction but this book was facts in story format! My eyes were opened about what Masons think and do.
